As the cost of home heating continues to rise, weatherization has become an increasingly popular approach to saving on the cost of utilities. The Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) was created in 1976 to help low-income families reduce energy consumption and costs. By making their homes more energy efficient, low-income families can reduce their energy bill and decrease the consumption of resources.
The United States Department of Energy’s Weatherization Assistance Program has provided weatherization services to more than 6.4 million low-income families, who expect to save $358 on their first year’s utility bills. Weatherization returns $2.69 for each dollar spent on the program in energy and non-energy benefits.
