History

As early as 1906, wastewater was collected and gravity fed to a 30,000 gallon septic tank. During the late 1940s, the Maple Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant was built. In 1966, the South Tyger Treatment Plant was put into operation. To help protect the environment and better serve our customers, the South Tyger plant was taken out of service in early 2000 and replaced with a large capacity sewer lift station which pumps the wastewater to the recently upgraded Maple Creek facility.

Greer CPW has 5,450 manholes and 206 miles of gravity sewer lines. Greer CPW has 17 pump stations that are needed to pump wastewater across long distances.

Service Area

The City of Greer, with boundaries extending north to Apalache, Highway 14 North at Country Club Road, continuing on Highways 290 and 101 to Mt. Vernon Estates; south down Highway 14 South to Maple Creek along Poplar Drive Extension to Textube and along Highway 101 South to I-85; east to the South Tyger Wastewater Treatment Plant and the Maple Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant west to King Acres, then south along Princess Creek to South Suber Road. Greer CPW treats 2/2.5 MGD of wastewater each day at our Maple Creek Treatment Facility. We have started the first of three construction phases to take the Maple Creek Treatment Facility to 10 MGD. The first phase presently under construction will provide 5 MGD of treatment capacity, the second phase will provide treatment capacity of 7.5 MGD and the final phase will provide an additional 10 MGD of treatment capacity. Phase one is under construction and will be completed by April 2010. The remaining two phases will be constructed within the next 7 to 10 years. When all three phases are complete Maple Creek should provide wastewater treatment capacity for the next 15 years. In 1994 Greer CPW entered into an intergovernmental agreement with Western Carolina Regional Sewer Authority. This agreement provides wastewater treatment service for all the new growth in the Princess Creek Basin on the west side of Greer. It will provide sewer treatment to South Highway 14 below of I-85, Westmoreland Rd, and the new Village Hospital Campus. It also will provide wastewater treatment along I-85 from Highway 14 to Brockman MClimon Rd. Wastewaters from this area will be treated at the WCRSA Pelham Treatment Facility. This treatment facility was recently upgraded to 22 MGD. With Greer having the ability to increase its Maple Creek Treatment Facility to 10 MGD and the WCRSA Pelham Plants recent upgrade to 22 MGD Greer CPW should be able to meet the growth it this area of our sewer service area for the next 15 years.
