High-growth

Greer is one of the fastest-growing cities in South Carolina due to its industry, prime location off I-85, and its location on the county line of Greenville and Spartanburg counties. The Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport is located in Greer, helping to make it one of the most accessible communities—especially since GSP International is ranked one of the most convenient airports in the nation.
Greer is home to the BMW Manufacturing Corporation where the Z4 Roadster and X5 Sports Activity Vehicles are built at the Greer factory. More than 4,800 employees work at the 2.4 million-square-foot facility.
Other major international companies in Greer include Textube (Japan), Kawai Finishing (Japan), and Mitsubishi Polyester Film (Japan). The larger US-based manufacturers include Honeywell, Century III, and Detroit Broach.
Greer is also known for its transportation, warehousing, and distribution operations. Gateway International Business Center–a business park one mile from I-85 and adjacent to the airport—is located near BMW—making it a sought-after area for auto suppliers.
Retail development has followed industrial and general commercial growth in Greer. While the overall retail market in Greenville County continues to be flat, Greer has one of the highest levels of retail development in the area including a new Super Wal-Mart and Target.
Downtown Development
Greer’s Partnership for Tomorrow focuses on revitalizing downtown Greer The downtown strategy includes new plazas and parks for citizens to use; new economic development opportunities for shops, businesses, and residential uses in the historic buildings; and proposals for new office, residential and commercial development in the downtown area.
