Requirements for residential service – lease/rent

When signing up for a residential account which is rented or leased, the customer must sign a service application and provide a lease/rental agreement or rent receipt along with a valid picture ID, Social Security card, and pay the application fee and a deposit.


The agreement or receipt must include the name of the responsible tenant, address and date of expected occupancy as well as other adults living in the residence. The ID can be a state issued license or identification card, government ID or a passport.


The customer may provide the copies of a Social Security card, a pay check stub, W2 form or a legal document showing the SSN.


The application fee will be based on the number of metered services we provide to the residence. $30.00 for one service, $45.00 for two services and $60.00 for all services.

Based on a credit report, a deposit may be required. 

Subleased properties

Companies may handle subleasing differently. However, as long as the tenant has a lease, we will honor it. If the lease is in a company’s name, the employee is required to put the services in their name. The employee will be allowed to sign up for service. They are still subject to requirements for services, fees and deposits.

Requirements for residential service – purchase

When signing up for residential account and the property is owned by the customer signing up for service, the customer must sign a service application, provide proof of ownership, and provide their social security number, ITN, or Federal Tax ID number.

Proof of ownership may be:

  • A settlement statement / HUD statement
  • Office Sales agreement contract
  • A tax notice for the property with the customer’s name
  • Homeowner’s insurance policy with name and address of location
  • Deed / Title to property.

The application fee will be based on the number of metered services we provide to the residence. $30.00 for one service, $45.00 for two services and $60.00 for three or more services.

Based on a credit report, a deposit may be requried. 

Requirements for commercial service – lease/rent

When signing up for a commercial account which is rented or leased, the customer must sign a service application and provide a lease/rental agreement or rent receipt along with a valid picture ID, Social Security card, and pay an application fee and deposit.

Agreement or receipt must include the name of the responsible tenant, address and date of expected occupancy.

The ID can be a state issued license or identification card, government ID or a passport.

When using the SSN, the account will be set up in the customer’s name, DBA (Doing Business As).

If the customer is obtaining services under a business name a federal identification number will be required.

A deposit will be required for all non-commercial customers unless an irrevocable letter of credit or surety bond is issued. Large customers may also submit company financials indicating a reduced credit risk or bond rating worthiness. 

The application fee will be based on the number metered services we provide to the residence. $40.00 for one service, $65.00 for two services and $90.00 for all services.

 

Requirements for commercial – purchase

When signing up for commercial account and the property is owned by the business signing up for service, the customer must sign a service application and provide a proof of ownership along with a valid picture ID, Federal Identification number, pay an application fee and possibly a deposit.

Proof of ownership may be:

  • A settlement statement / HUD statement;
  • Office Sales agreement contract;
  • A tax notice for the property with the customer’s name;
  • Homeowner’s insurance policy with name and address of location;
  • Deed / Title to property.

NOTE: A Lease with option to Buy or Rent to Own is considered rental property.

The ID can be a state issued license or identification card, government ID or a passport.

When using a social security number, the account will be set up in the customer’s name, DBA.

If the customer is obtaining services under a business name, a federal identification number will be required.

The application fee will be based on the number of metered services we provide to the residence. $40.00 for one service, $65.00 for two services and $90.00 for all services.

A deposit is required non-residential accounts unless an irrevocable letter of credit or surety bond is issued. Large customers may also submite company financials indicating a reduced credit risk or bond rating worthiness. 

Transferring residential services – lease/rent

To transfer service from one active account to another, customer must provide Residential Requirements for Lease/Rent. If there is a past due amount, it must be paid before the services can be transferred. All customers must sign a new service application.

Deposits are based on a credit report. However, an additional deposit may apply if the customer has not maintained a satisfactory payment history or if the current deposit is not adequate for the account to which they are transferring. Satisfactory payment is paying on time for 12 months with only two late payments, no returned checks and not being placed on the cut off list.

Transferring of commercial services – lease/rent

To transfer service from one active account to another, customer must meet the Commercial Requirements for Lease/Rent. If there is a past due amount, it must be paid before the services can be transferred. All customers must sign a new service application.

No connection fee will be required to transfer. However, an additional deposit may apply if the customer has not maintained a satisfactory payment history or if the current deposit is not adequate for the account to which they are transferring. Satisfactory payment is paying on time for 12 months with only two late payments, no returned checks and not being placed on the cut off list.

Separation of spouses

Connection fees are waived for spousal separation unless new meter readings are required. If the account holder is transferring service and there is a deposit on the account, the deposit will transfer to the new account with permission from the spouse. The new account holder will be required to post a deposit if there is unsatisfactory payment history and must pay an application fee. 

Death of customer

In the event of a death, the spouse may change the name on the account to their name. If they are not already listed on the account with their ID and SSN, they will need to provide this information and complete an application. There will not be an application fee. However, a deposit may be required.

If a person is not currently listed on the account, proof of ownership is required. 

Multiple accounts

A Renter may not have more than one rented / leased property in their name at any given time and must provide a disconnection date no more than two weeks from the date of transfer, unless there are extenuating circumstances. In these situations, the accounts will be reviewed by the Customer Service Manager for approval and quoting of the fees required. The customer may have more than one account in their name if they own the properties.
