Municipal wastewater treatment in Greer began around 1906 with a 30,000 gallon septic tank collecting and treating wastewater for the area.
In the 1940s, the Maple Creek Wastewater Treatment Facility was built. Today, the facility is capable of treating 5 million gallons of wastewater per day (MGD), with plans to expand to 10 MGD to handle additional growth. The Maple Creek Wastewater Treatment Facility serves more than 14,300 accounts in the Greer area.
The wastewater service area has 270 miles of gravity lines, 22 pump stations, 9 permitted industries and approximately 120 food service establishments. CPW also entered into a cooperative intergovernmental agreement with Renewable Water Resources (ReWa) to treat some of the sewer flowing from our service area. ReWa is a regional wastewater treatment provider, and these cooperative agreements help accommodate additional growth by transporting sewer to additional treatment facilities.
