The Greer Commission of Public Works (CPW) was recently awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting (CAFR) for the 2019 fiscal year from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA).

“It is a great honor to receive this award.  While much of our work is known for keeping lights on and water running, it is also important to be transparent in how we spend customer dollars, cycle money back to infrastructure improvements and work to lower our long-term debt,” said Angela Karcher, CPW Finance Manager.

This is the 15th consecutive year CPW has received this award and is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting.

“Hats off to the finance department for their diligent work in communicating the financial aspects of our organization.  We believe in transparency in everything we do and finances are a big part of that, “ said Jeff Howell, Greer CPW Chairman.

The CAFR was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users to read the CAFR.
