Greer CPW is a member of the Piedmont Municipal Power Agency (PMPA®), a joint action agency made up of ten municipal electric utilities in the northern part of South Carolina.

Currently Greer CPW gets all its power through PMPA.  Through PMPA, portions of power come from the Catawba Nuclear Station, Santee Cooper, and the Southeastern Power Administration (SEPA) hydro-electric projects.

Greer CPW provides electric service to approximately 25,830 customers within the city of Greer and in certain unincorporated areas nearby.

Understanding Your Bill - Purchase Power Adjustment (PPA)

Purchase Power Adjustment (PPA)

In the electric industry, a Purchase Power Adjustment (PPA) is a mechanism to recover variations in our wholesale energy costs each month. Greer CPW passes wholesale costs to its customers with no mark-up or impact to Greer CPW’s net revenue depending on what we had to pay for electricity the previous month.

While we do our best to project electric costs for the upcoming year, the PPA could go up or down depending on market price changes. This type of adjustment has been part of Greer CPW’s billing structure for many years. In September 2025, when we introduced a new customer bill design, we added a separate line item for the PPA to provide better clarity on each utility’s charges.
