Greer CPW’s electric department was recently one of 125 public power utilities recognized with the American Public Power Association’s Safety Award of Excellence for safe operating practices in 2019. The department logged 25,725 hours without any major incident or illness and received 1st place in the category with other similar sized utilities.

“Going home to our families each day is something we take a lot of pride in. We train daily to make sure we can do our duties as efficiently but safely as possible. This award is further proof that safety is a top priority in Greer,” said Tony Farr, Greer CPW Electric Department Manager.

More than 335 utilities entered the annual Safety Awards, which is the highest number of entrants in the history of the program. Entrants were placed in categories according to their number of worker-hours and ranked based on the most incident-free records during 2019. The incidence rate, used to judge entries, is based on the number of work-related reportable injuries or illnesses and the number of worker-hours during 2019, as defined by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
