Greer CPW recently received the 2021 Safety Achievement Award from the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (LLR). A reception was held July 21st in Columbia to celebrate the 30 public and private businesses who received awards.
“Safety is our top priority at Greer CPW. We discuss safe practices daily and constantly improve our operations to make sure each employee goes home to their families each day,” said Bruce Fallon, Greer CPW Safety Coordinator.
The purpose of the award is to recognize companies’ that take strides to reduce recordable occupational injuries and illnesses during the past calendar year. Out of the three categories, Greer CPW received the Palmetto Shining Star – a first for the organization.
“Having a safe work environment is one of the highest honors we can receive. This recognition would not be possible without the entire company’s commitment to safety,” said Jeff Howell, Greer CPW Chairman.
The award was based on several criteria including having no recordable injuries or illnesses during the 2020 year, reducing the accident incident rate from 2019 and putting COVID-19 policies in place to protect employees. Greer CPW logged more than 212,000 hours with no recordable injuries in 2020.
Several programs Greer CPW recently implemented that promote a positive work environment include a safety incentive, using a safety consultant to investigate near miss or at fault accidents and pivoting from in person safety meetings to an online program during COVID.
Greer CPW also promoted a safe community through the Call 811 Before You Dig campaign, Can the Grease initiative and the Drug Take Back Day with the Greer Police Department.
