Greer CPW is closely monitoring a winter storm that may bring a combination of ice and snow to the Upstate including Greer CPW’s service territory starting Saturday, January 24, 2026.

BEFORE the storm:

  • Prepare emergency kit with flashlights, extra batteries, food, water, clothing, charged cell phones, medication, pet food and important documents.
  • Update your contact info with Greer CPW.  Log into your Customer Service Portal and hit the “notification” tab.
  • Look for any low hanging limbs that may be a danger to power lines or your property.
  • If temperatures are below freezing (32 degrees), make sure to drip faucets that are located on exterior walls or do not have insulation.
  • Clean storm drains in your community so water can flow freely.

DURING the storm:

  • Consider all lines energized.  Report trees on lines and downed power lines in the Greer CPW territory to 864-848-5500.
  • Report and follow outages.  Report power outages using your Customer Service Portal.  Log in and hit the “report power outage” button.  You can also view current Greer CPW outages on our website.
  • Listen to trusted weather sources.  Make sure you have a way to receive emergency information and storm updates.  It could be a weather radio, app or alerts on your cell phone.
  • Keep ’em closed.  If you lose power, keep your refrigerator doors closed as much as possible.  Food should last up to 4+ hours during a power outage.
  • Stay off the roads. Hitting black ice can not only be a danger for you but for our equipment as well.  Please do not risk hitting a power pole or transformer.
  • If your power goes out, close off unneeded rooms and wear layers of loose fitting, lightweight, warm clothing. Also, make sure to stay properly hydrated and eat non-perishable food items.  Food provides the body with energy for producing its own heat.

AFTER the storm:

  • If you plan to remove downed trees, call 811 to have underground utility lines marked.  Tree roots may have grown around our utility lines.  This includes stump grinding, digging with heavy equipment and shoveling.
  • Avoid sightseeing. Even after a storm passes, there are many hazards that can harm you.  Added traffic on the road may prevent our staff from getting to people who need help.
  • Consider online or electronic ways to pay your Greer CPW bill that will keep you safe at home. We have seven different ways to make a payment.
  • Detailed updates on potential utility outages and possible closures to our Customer Service lobby will be added to this web article.
