Greer CPW is closely monitoring the path of tropical disturbance AL94.  Should this form into a named storm, it would be called “Imelda”.  Spaghetti models show the storms path coming from the Atlantic towards South Carolina but what remains unclear is what the storm will do once it reaches land. Weather reports indicate the biggest impact to our service territory would be late Monday, September 29, 2025 into Tuesday morning.  Heavy rainfall, wind gusts, isolated tornados, and power outages are possible with this weather event.  It’s important to note as with all weather events, the path may be faster or slower than predicted and to seek trusted weather sources for information.

BEFORE a storm:

  • Prepare emergency kit with flashlights, extra batteries, food, water, clothing, charged cell phones and important documents.
  • Update your contact info with Greer CPW.  Log into your Customer Service Portal and hit the “notification” tab.
  • Clean storm drains in your community so water can flow freely.
  • Secure boats and docks.  If you live lakeside on Cunningham or Robinson, please remove any furniture from docks and leave slack in dock lines to allow for changes in lake levels.
  • Secure your home and yard. Remove any items from your yard like planters, trampolines, toys, and furniture that may float away during flooding or move during a wind gust.

DURING a storm:

  • Consider all lines energized.  Report trees on lines and downed power lines in the Greer CPW territory to 864-848-5500.
  • Report and follow outages.  Report power outages using your Customer Service Portal.  Log in and hit the “report power outage” button.  You can also view current Greer CPW outages on our website.
  • Listen to trusted weather sources.  Make sure you have a way to receive emergency information and storm updates.  It could be a weather radio, app, or alerts on your cell phone.
  • Keep ’em closed.  If you lose power, keep your refrigerator doors closed as much as possible.  Food should last up to 4+ hours during a power outage.
  • Stay away from windows.  Take refuge in a small interior room like your closet, hallway, or bathroom on the lowest level and away from windows and glass doors.

AFTER a storm:

  • If you plan to remove downed trees, call 811 to have underground utility lines marked.  Tree roots may have grown around our utility lines.  This includes stump grinding, digging with heavy equipment, and shoveling.
  • Stay out of floodwater.  Floodwater can contain raw sewage, pet waste, motor oil, pesticides, downed power lines, sharp objects, snakes, and bacteria.
  • Avoid sightseeing. Even after a storm passes, there are many hazards that can harm you.  Added traffic on the road may prevent our staff from getting to people who need help.
