Greer CPW’s electric department was one of 138 public power utilities recently recognized with the American Public Power Association’s (APPA) Safety Award of Excellence for safe operating practices in 2021. This is Greer CPW’s 11th APPA safety award.

“Many things have changed over the last few years due to the pandemic but one thing that remains the same is our commitment to employee safety and promoting a solid safety program within the office,” said Tony Farr, Greer CPW Electric Department Manager.

This award comes on the heels of continued growth in the Greer service territory. Currently, Greer CPW has more than 22,400 electric customers serving power primarily in Greer’s city limits and some unincorporated areas nearby. The electric department and 12 linemen logged 24,224 hours and received 1st place in the category with other similar sized utilities.

“Receipt of this national award demonstrates our commitment to safety within an inherently dangerous industry. Our linemen and safety coordinators are committed to providing reliable energy to our valued customers at competitive rates and creating a workplace that puts safety as a top priority,” said Perry J. Williams, Greer CPW Chairman.

The recognition comes near National Lineman Appreciation Day which is celebrated every April 18th and recognizes men and women in the electric industry.
